Hot New Beauty Ingredients You’re About to See Everywhere

By now, every skin care devotee knows about the benefits of retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid. While these ingredients are indisputably effective, there’s always something new and exciting on the horizon in the beauty world. So start taking notes, skincare junkies: you’re about to see these new beauty ingredients everywhere you look!

1. Probiotics

Probiotics are fantastic for their ability to heal skin both from the inside out and from the outside in. Sounds confusing, but listen up: from the inside out, probiotic supplements touting skincare benefits are popping up everywhere. A huge portion of your immune system lives in your GI tract. So when the good bacteria in your gut is out of sync, your skin suffers first. Think inflammation flare ups like acne, dryness, and loss of elasticity. When you take a daily probiotic like Ora’s Trust Your Gut, inflammations calm down, and your skin can function properly (hello, glass skin!).

For topical solutions (outside in!), Tula’s skincare line is infused with probiotics to help fight acne-causing bacteria on the surface of your skin, making it great for breakout-prone complexions. We also are loving Algenist’s ALIVE Prebiotic Balancing Mask . It’s packed with prebiotics from algae, which helps to detoxify and balance the skin’s ecosystem. If you’re looking for a great DIY, try a plain full fat yogurt face mask to soothe and moisturize.

2. Seaweed + Algae

If you’re not already on the seaweed bandwagon, what are you waiting for? Its full of vitamins and minerals that are great for purifying and moisturizing. Planet Botanicals uses a unique blend of Maine-harvested seaweed in their extensive body care, and they all smell heavenly! For a facial skincare option, we adore Sapelo’s Gentle Seaweed Cleanser. It’s brilliantly refreshing, but will never leave your skin dry, thanks to its luxurious blend of seaweed and other botanicals. One Ocean Beauty, another brand we love, uses algae in their amazing skin-care products. Algae has the ability to soothe irritation and inflammation, and can even reduce the appearance of sun damage.

3. Cannabis

While this might seem like a surprising beauty trend, hemp oil and cannabidiol (CBD) oil are taking the beauty world by storm. CBD and hemp oils are full of moisturizing and skin-strengthening omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. They also have amazing anti-inflammatory properties. Cannabliss’ Bliss Body Oil is not only intensely moisturizing due to CBD, but it has mild pain-relieving properties, and can soothe skin irritations like acne, rosacea, and sunburn with ease. The Organic Hemp Line’s Facial Serum is an anti-aging powerhouse thanks to hemp oil that is full of restoring amino acids. If you’re in New York City, stop by The Alchemist Kitchen: they’ve just launched a series of CBD products (our go-to is the Saffron Face Cream infused with CBD Oil).

4. Moringa Oil

It seems that every five minutes, there’s a newer, more magical oil on the horizon. First there was Argan oil, then Rosehip, then Coconut, and now there is Moringa. But don’t dismiss Moringa as just another new beauty trendy oil – it is seriously amazing for your hair and skin. True Moringa’s Moringa oil is rich in linoleic acid, which helps acne-prone skin types get clear, and Marinella’s Moringa Mask and Night Cream combo will leave your skin buttery soft.

5. Crystals

Your twelve-year-old self would be thrilled to know that crystals and precious stones have taken their rightful place on every beauty insider’s vanity. These aren’t the kind you’d find at Icing or Claire’s, though – they’re all grown up. From jade rollers that de-puff and drain lymph, to rose quartz combs that stimulate the scalp, crystals are the new beauty secret weapon. Some brands are going a step further: O’o of Hawaii’s birds + roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask has real rose quartz finely ground into the mask itself!
